Hello!

Looking for tips to maintain your gorgeous Dotti Clip-in Hair Extensions set?

Follow our step-by-step wash routine below..

Step 1: Brush the clip-in hair extensions

Brushing your clip in hair extensions before a wash is an essential step that minimizes tangling during and after hair washing. We recommend that you brush your hair from the bottom upwards so that you can gently remove tough knots, without pulling out any hair.

Use a wide-tooth comb or soft bristle brush. Once you have completed this step, place the wefts neatly on top of each other in a bundle. This will ensure that there is no tangling with the clips during the washing process.

Step 2: Prepare the sink

First you need to ensure that your sink is clean and then you fill it up with lukewarm water.

Squirt a small handful of moisturizing shampoo into the water and wave the water around to ensure the product is evenly dispersed. We highly recommend using hair products that are alcohol free, sulfate free, and designed for colour-treated hair. This will help to preserve the hair colour.

Step 3: Shampoo each weft

Tip: Sometimes you can skip the shampoo and co-wash your clip-in hair extensions with your conditioner.

Wash each weft individually to prevent tangling and to ensure that the wefts are washed thoroughly. Hold the weft in one hand at the top, submerge it into the water, and gently wash the hair, working the shampoo in with light strokes. Never rub the clip-in hair extensions vigorously.

Once your shampoo is complete, set the wefts aside neatly on a towel.

Step 4: Condition each weft

Take a generous amount of conditioner and apply onto each weft from top to bottom, massaging the product thoroughly into the hair. Leave the product on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse each weft thoroughly.

Tip: The longer you leave the conditioner on, the better.

Step 5: Use a hair mask or deep conditioner

This is an essential step for ensuring that your clip-in hair extensions remain soft and retain moisture. Use a generous amount of product and work it into each weft from top to bottom.

Tip: If you want to make the most of this step, bundle your clip-in hair extensions, carefully coil and place them in a shower cap, then leave it overnight. This will seal in the moisture.

Step 6: Rinse each weft

For the next step, you need to thoroughly rinse each weft, leaving no residue. Excess product makes the hair look greasy and weighs it down.

Make sure to rinse each weft with cold water – this helps to close the hair cuticle and make the clip-in hair extensions shinier.

Step 7: Air dry the clip-in hair extensions

Firstly, squeeze any excess water from the clip-in hair extensions and make sure that you never rub your extensions dry with a towel. We highly recommend air-drying your extensions and using a micro-fibre towel. This towel will remove excess water faster and it will not rough up the hair (which can also cause tangles).

Lay out all the wefts on a flat surface and gently pat the excess moisture from the hair.

Tip: Prevent frizz by applying a small amount of hair oil to each weft.

If you must blow-dry your clip-in hair extensions, always apply a heat protectant spray. Blow dry the hair on a cool setting to prevent any heat damage and do not brush the hair until it is 90% dry.

Focus on drying the root of the weft first, then work your way down to the ends. Always blow-dry downwards as this will help to not only smooth the cuticle but it will also prevent the hair from getting tangled since it is being blown in lots of different directions.
